I stumbled across this little gem (meaning Emma) at the Vintage Fair at Kendal Town Hall. Her gorgeous styled table settings, scrumptious props and attention to detail really blew me away.
If you are planning an event of any kind and need some lovely styling/props, or if you haven't got the time and need someone to organise the whole event for you then take One Lump or Two, a drop of milk, give it a little stir and this is what you get...
Tell us a bit about One Lump or Two?
One Lump or Two? is an event company and it specialises in vintage and country weddings and parties.
We’re made up of three mix and match parts:
- A rentals department with a huge inventory of vintage tableware, village fete chairs and details to decorate your space such as antique milk urns, apple crates, vintage suitcases etc.
- A bespoke event design and styling service.
- And hospitality services that cater for DIY celebrations including a troupe of staff to wait on your guests, with complete event coordination options for unstaffed venues and a beautiful pop up tea tent for that festival feel.
How did you discover your passion for vintage rentals and event planning?
It was a fairly organic process really. I got my start in hotels and restaurants because I love food, coffee, wine and people - I had amazing mentors who demanded a certain standard – which was pretty exacting and I admired that so I explored the hospitality industry more to learn the nuts and bolts. I went on to study Event Management because I wanted to add some variety to the mix.
These days a working knowledge of hospitality operations is as relevant as a little black book of suppliers and an unhealthy addiction to spreadsheets when it comes to successful event planning. My passion comes from pulling all of those elements together.
As for the rentals - it more a question of curating a collection of items that would be beautiful, give character to a space and work practically for vintage and country inspired celebrations: backyard weddings, a village hall bash or party in a barn.
What inspires you?
I like atmosphere. I’ve always been slightly obsessed by the way a place can make you feel, be it in nature, in a restaurant, in a house...I like to see how elements come together to create something unique. I have that idea in my head constantly when I’m working – for me the ultimate goal is to create that authentic experience and so I’m heavily influenced by all the elements that affect a space: light, people, service culture, colour, design, food etc.
The hardworking artisan spirit to design, create and master something, I love that too – it shows passion, that’s very inspiring.
What is the best part of your job? What is the most challenging?
Hands down the best part of my job is variety. I love that the job requires a complete process from behind the scenes to front of house and that every event is unique.
The most challenging part? Growing the business. The hunt for the perfect premises to base ourselves continues!
Do you have any exciting events/plans for the near future?
I’m working on finding a new home for the business: an online home in a new website and blog and also that perfect premises that will let us spread our business wings.
